Default Does american health insurance exist for Canadians?

I am a Canadian living in Canada, and I am greatly concerned by the state of health care up here. My son recently was refered to an "ENT" specialist. We called for the appointment and we set one that is 12 months away. I was hoping someone knew of an insurance company selling medical insurance to Canadians that would allow us to seek health care in the states if we cant get into see a doctor in Canada in a reasonable time.

Just as a thought I have seen much debate about universal health care in your pres. debates. They say Canadas system is universal health care. But it isn't what we have. We have a system that is universal emergency health care. So basically if you are dying you can see a doctor, for anything else you have to wait until it gets bad enough that you are dying before you can see a doctor.

Thanks

This is the reason not many want universal health care in America. It's almost that bad already, but we pay through the teeth for it. Many insurance plans people have here are somewhat the same as far as waiting, but not quite a year like your son. I have had to wait for 3 months for certain tests, but I suppose it someone was very sick they'd get it in a hurry here. I think the reason health care is so high today is that we are a suing nation, and it's driven health care out of sight. I can remember 1950 when an office call to see the Dr. was $8.00 and we couldn't afford it then either. Suing a Dr. then was unheard of, and of course we didn't have near the technology we have today which costs too. It's a mess, and I don't think universal health care will help in the least, because someone has to pay for it anyway.

Yeah most specialists take forever its because there aren't enough here. It is expensive to see one in the states but I would call your medical plan and talk to them about being covered anywhere else or look into seeing if there are other specialists around. If it isn't an emergency don't worry to much. All the best!

You can get American health care even if you're a Canadian. I'm not sure whether or not you'd be able to get health insurance, but even if you could, it probably wouldn't cover whatever your son has, since it's a preexisting condition.

On a broader note, we have universal emergency health care in the US too. But you Canadians have something more. Hypothetically, you can get free health care for things that aren't emergencies too. The fact that you have to wait a long time to get it is just a result of the fact that your health care system is run incompetently.
