Default Getting health insurance to cover the cost of a new mattress.?

It has been decided I do not have sleep apnea. Therefore I am assuming that the problem with my not sleeping is my 20 yr old mattress. Wondering if anyone knows if Blue Cross will cover that if script is written for it?

Nope. Prescription coverage refers only to drugs...unless it's a hospital bed. Some people with certain illnesses are required to have hospital beds...these people are generally severely brain damaged and are cared for by other people. Since you only have a sleeping problem, ask your doc if you qualify to get prescribed sleeping pills, or just take a couple of tylenol pm.

It depends on your coverage and how likely your doctor is to recommend a new one. The only way to find out is to call your provider and ask what their policy is, and then if they say it's ok (usually for certain reasons) then talk to your doctor.

It's a similar situation to a patient wanting a breast reduction. Some insurance companies will cover the cost of the surgery if it is proven by a doctor that it is, in fact, medically necessary and that it is not for cosmetic reasons.
