After all it isn't the way 'we' set it up. For many people it is just the way it is. Sort of like inherited. Our parents did it that way and their parents did and so on......

I remember reading that health insurance began as Blue Cross and Blue Shield seperately and then they merged and then somewhere about 1930 or so the government wrote laws that required employers to provide their employees with health insurance.

Just because it's been this way for 70 or 80 years or so doesn't mean we can't change it or make it better.

my parents paid out of pocket for all of thier medical expenses up in to the middle 1970's. the costs were not so out of line that it was impossible to accomplish. medicaid and the like have actually driven prices up because the doctors and hospitals have to make up for the losses that they incur when servicing these plans. face it, there is no free lunch.
