Default Health Insurance - IUI /IVF coverage?

We are trying to select health insurance for 2008. Both mine and my wife's employers offer health insurance. We are planning to take individual health insurances from our respective employers due to coverage and cost.

We are planning to try IUI /IVF in next few months. Are these covered under mine or my wife health insurance? My wife's health insurance offers better coverage for IUI/IVF and is also more expensive. Are there any issues if we go for individual health insurance?

Thanks
Dave

Sorry but they are not covered on anybodies insurance. Insurance does not pay for anything that has to do with infertility.

The only way to be sure of infertility benefits is to call your HR dept or the insurance company directly and ask them to verify in detail what they do/don't cover in regards to infertility. My insurance covered 50% of IUI but nothing on IVF. I have friends that work for a company that the insurance will pay for up to 2 cycles of IVF. It's basically up to the employer if they want to offer the additional fertility coverage. Good luck!

First of all, That is not true (in reference to Angie)some insurances do cover infertility like mines cover all ultrasounds and medications...the only thing it doesnt cover is IVF. But i have heard that there are some that cover infertitlity procedures such as IVF, but it is up to your employer. I beleive IUI are about 200-300...that would be the best way to go, unless they all fail. Good luck! I hope you find a way to cover the expenses threw the insurances
