Default Universal Health Insurance?

I am conservative but I go agree that we need universal health insurance. But I haven't studied too much in depth on it. In your eyes (both liberal and conservatives answer please) are the pros and cons of unversalizing healthcare? How would universal health care work for people with diseases like diabetes, cancer, AIDS? What about people who have not been diagnosed with diseases, and tend to only see a doctor when they are sick? What about preventive care (aka mammogram for women, prostate check for men)? What are experimental medical procedures and experimental medications? What about fertility clinics for women who cannot become pregnant? What about anything else I forgot?

And please, no arguing, this is just opinions.
FYI Due to not having insurance I have been battling sinus headaches for over 2 and a half weeks now, because I cannot afford the $100 for one simple urgent care visit, to have a doctor write me a prescription for an antibiotic I can pick up for $4 at Wal-mart. Why should I pay $100 to have a doctor tell me something I already know (I get sinus infections enough to know when I have one). And in applying for health insurance I got asked question about everything, including the tiniest detail, and still have to go through a physical exam (which I may or may not fail, due to my sinus infection) within this week, and still not know whether or not I qualify for insurance, and if I do qualify wait almost another month just to start receiving benefits. Would it not be better, to have the insurance be universal?

U BE SO FUNNY!!

Just take a look at what "mandatory" AUTO insurance has done for Americans! Hell... we can hardly afford the INSURANCE premiums... and has it made ANY REAL "positive" impact on the costs of autos, accidents, repairs, etc.? NO!

Our constitution guarantees the right to

1. LIFE... not the QUALITY of that life.
2. LIBERTY
3. The PURSUIT of Happiness... not the "healthiness" of that happiness.

Sorry, but I see no positives in UHI... and WHY is the USA trying to move TOWARDS the horrible kind of system that Canada has when CANADA is trying to move towards the kind of system that WE have???? It does NOT make sense.

Have a right-wing day.

I read a medicaid pamphlet the other day on a sentence in the first paragraph caught my eye. It said it was designed to save money. And if you really look over any socialized site it will say the same, they are designed to save money, not lives. Even for pay insurance doesn't like paying for experimental care so that will be a thing of the past. For a fertility clinic you will have to prove how it is economically viable for the government to pay for it. Plus the baby boomers are about to hit geriatric, the bill that is coming is astronomical. You can sue insurance, I doubt you will be able to sue the feds. Me personally, keep the government out of it, they will not have my best interest, nor anyone's for that matter, at heart. Government will always do what is best for government.

If you have a sinus head ache try to have your doctor phone in a prescription. If he will do that won't even cost you a visit, or talk to the pharmacist yourself. Some can prescribe on the spot. There are ways to bypass the doctor.

I'm glad you said UNIVERSAL HEALTH INSURANCE. Health CARE being the other side of the equation. With UNIVERSAL HEALTH INSURANCE the health CARE end of this business will remain the same....good in some areas of the US, not so hot in others. The difference is that all Americans will have HEALTH INSURANCE at an affordable price. At this point those that have insurance, or those like you who pay cash, pay for those that don't have insurance or are unable or unwilling to pay. A non-profit public corporation with clear-as-glass oversight would serve the needs of American citizens far better than the for-profit run-a-round that most folks WITH private insurance now endure. Doctors and hospitals would get paid in full and on time with less overhead. A single payer plan means one set of rules, not the dozens that the dozens of private insurers require. UNIVERSAL HEALTH INSURANCE would replace Medicare and Medicade and the dozens of other federal, state and county medical insurance plans. Certainly your insurance payment will come from payroll deduction, but it will be less than you're paying now for Medicare and what you have to kick in for employer-based insurance if you have it. As industry will no longer be on the hook for group medical insurance for its workers it's even possible you'll see a boost in your paycheck to cover some or all of the MEDICAL INSURANCE part of your withholding. There will be some co-pays and some deductables as well, so it sure won't be free, but it will be less and if you're not working or between jobs you'll still be covered. Don't compare universal health insurance to what they have in other countries....that's not valid!
