it depends on what type of insurance you are talking about....do you have zero coverage until your deductible is met? That is how mine works. Each year we have a $4000 family deductible for anything that is non preventative 9reg check ups/shots etc...). Once that dollar amount is met, then my insurance covers everything. I chose this option because I simply don't have a lot of health issues and rarely go to the ER.
