i just filled out insurance papers for tricare for like the fourth time... (my husbands airforce) and i just noticed that it says 'former spouse' as an option for a dependent. i don't know just what that means, but it looks like something you should look into. your kids, if they're his kids too, will get to stay on his insurance.
if all else fails look into clinics that let you pay on a sliding scale.

Why pay hundreds of dollars for a What If factor when you can get a discount plan and put your own money in a health savings account? That's what insurance companies do, and most of the time they don't cover everything and you're paying thousands of dollars for something you'll only use once or twice a year. It doesn't make sense. Our plan will save you money every year

Geee, this may seem to blunt, but how about not having an ex husband. Did you get married with the motto til death do us part.
You would not have this problem if you stayed married. Unless he is beating you to the point of death, things can be worked out. You just want to want it to work out. There are to many single moms out there and people wonder why the youth are so messed up psychologically.
