What is the procedure for if an american dies in india and has a life insurance

policy from usa.? my mother is travelling to india for a major surgery. she is not sure if she would survive the operation. she has insurance policy in usa and are made out to benefit her seven granchildren. my brother is travelling with her. what proofs do we need to process the claim.
