Ok, it doesn't matter WHO she "left the policy" with, the only person that gets the check, is the named beneficiary at the insurance company. So whomever she told THEM to pay, they'll pay.
It usually takes 2-4 weeks AFTER they receive all the document, IF the policy isn't contestable.
If she died of cancer, and has had the policy less than two or three years (time frame varies by state) it's likely going to take a LONG time, like six months - because they are going to request all her medical records, and cross check them against the answers on the application, to see if she lied about anything. If something on the application contradicts her medical records, they deny the claim.
