Default Life Insurance Policy - Smoking Test?

So I've just recently quit smoking cigarettes and am going to take out a variable life insurance policy hopefully before the end of the year. How long does it take for the remnants of smoking to leave my system so I can expect to pay the lower rates for the life portion of the policy? I was a weekend only smoker, and have a relatively strong metabolism. Would it speed up the process to increase my workouts between now and when I apply for the policy? I've been told it is normally a urine test.
Thanks for the variable policy concern, but let's stick to the question at hand shall we?

Well your question has two parts really; what your urine tests say and what you say: You could probably pass the urine test in 2-4 weeks. Then when they ask you have you smoked in the past two years (???) then you have to decide if you lie and get cheaper rates or tell the truth. My advise, always tell the truth.

I would say I share the other posters concerns for buying VUL: Well, read for yourself: http://www.insuranceyak.com/life-insurance-as-an-investment/

Good luck.

Worse than your smoking concern is your variable insurance policy. Variable policies cost more than anything else, and as the name suggests, VARY, either up or down. Did your agent sort of talk you into this, or was it your idea? If it was his, it figures, as the commission is enormous. And the commission persists every year for as long as you pay the policy, helping his retirement.

The nicotine from smoking may stay in your system up to 14 days or longer. You may want to consider term life insurance with no medical exams.

However, make sure to answer all questions truthfully, as the insurance company may contest paying out your policy limites if they find out you were not honest on the life insurance application.
