Default Why is Giuliani promising Floridians a fed funded home insurance fund?

If people choose to live in a diaster zone, why should they be bailed out year after year?

Chi, if we were talking about tax-payer funded insurance for people who build homes in a flood plain that floods every 30 years or so, or people who build very close to a beach that is already eroding, I'd agree with you. But do you seriously consider that everything within 50 miles of the Atlantic or Gulf coasts to be a disaster zone? How about Kansas with all those tornadoes? Is that a disaster zone too?

He's full of Shiites. That would be the opposite of any Republican's plan. Florida's home insurance is expensive, especially wind insurance, so for him to say he'd be for equalizing homeowners' insurance costs across the nation, he's lying. He's probably also talking about how he's going to bring freedom to Cuba.

No it's fair insurance rates. Right now there is only 1 or 2 insurance companies that will insure homes down here. Let me tell you, they have you by the short hairs, because they don't have to be competitive. Before the year of the bad storms ('04), we paid for instance $3K per year. Now it's $9K, and there hasn't been any storms. The end of '04 Allstate, State Farm, all the big ones closed their offices and left. BUT they still peddle their auto ins. The rule will be if you want to sell auto, you must sell homeowner, and all other ins. too. Then when they come back, we can shop competitively and not get robbed.
The catastrophe fund is not only for Fl. but all states. To help with hurricanes, tornadoes, avalanches, wild fires, etc... I think we are all at risk there. We have FEMA, but it's Govmnt run and there has been some corruption there. All is better handled at the State level. It's closer to the people.

He's offering it to them so they vote for him, that should be rather obvious.

Have you seen Guiliani's poll numbers? I'm surprised he hasn't offered Floridians his first born and a night out with his new chick. He needs to win Florida BADLY, so I think there's nothing he won't promise them.

A fire can happen anywhere. Notice he didn't say what the rates would be nor does he say if everyone has to put into it. What the U.S. saw with Katrina was that insurace companies refused to pay for damages even though the owners had insurance for the cause that destroyed the property. Insurance companies do that with healthcare too. Insurane companies can deny insurance to existing conditions and the location of property. What the final provision will probably be is guaranteed insurance at at least break even rates. So those that want to have insurance have to fork over large amounts of cash to have it, but at loeast they will have it.
