Default Anyone who knows about Home Owners Insurance....?

I lived in an old house with my family. Our landlord hired a guy to waterproof our house, while he was doing that he ended up setting the house on fire..The third floor was destroyed by fire. The 2nd and 3rd9my floor) had water damage and the fire men had to put holes in our ceilings for the water to drain to the basement..Its now been a week and we are not allowed in cuz the township deemed in unsafe until repairs are made..Township says its landlords responsibility, landlord said its their home insurance that wont allow it...How long will this be? whos supposed to fix this so we can go get our furniture and move on? its been hard enough as it is!!!!!
Its not our fault the fire happened..We got a new place but we need our furniture..Who can we go after? i mean can this be years before they repair this place? why is the insurance company taking their sweet ass time?
we didnt have renters insurance..He never gave us any argreement. We just gave him our deposit three years ago. We even had problems getting my sisters in school becausewe didnt have proof we lived there

If the township deemed it unsafe..then you need to talk to the building commissioner to see if you can be allowed a few minutes to retrieve personal belongings...in the meantime if you have no renter insurance you may be able to sue the contractor for damages and losses...maybe his insurance company may just settle you out to keep you from seeking more than they want to pay out.

I would go to the township and ask them for advise. I'm sure there's a way to have a "supervised" removal of property. I say this because when a building is condemned they usually have a sheriffs office on site to allow people to remove there stuff but not go back in to live. So check with town or sheriffs / police dept and find out what can legally be done, especially since you won't be moving back in. good luck.
