Try and bear up under the sorrow this is causing.May I suggest that provided it is not against your religious beliefs you consider cremation in Greece and return her ashes to the UK.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.

There is unfortunately no-one who will pay for your relative to be flown back to the UK - I think you should take the advice of people here and have a funeral in Greece, and then bring the ashes back to the UK.

This is a lesson to everyone who thinks they will get away with travelling without travel insurance.

Many (if not all) airlines give highly reduced rates for funeral flights (for the body and for those travelling with it). Ask about those. Also, contact your aunt's health insurance and find out how to transfer her coverage and/or see if she had life insurance.

I had a relative who died in simillar circumstances. She was on holiday here (Scotland) from Norway. Sadly, the least inexpensive way to get around this was for a relative to come and represent the family at her funeral. She was then cremated and the ashes taken back to Norway. I know it's harsh but you might consider looking at the costs for similar. Sorry to hear about your loss. God bless.

I suspect someone will have to pay or there will be a burial abroad. The cost of the hospital fees could come out of her estate if she has a house to dispose of or other assets....If all else fails, you could have a cremation in Greece and just bring the ashes home...don't mean to be heartless but it would be cheaper....thats why we need insurance...but too late now.
