Default Health Insurance when deciding to work from home?

As a freelance Graphic Designer I'd have to quit my current job and work from home. Advice on Health Insurance?

You'll be able to keep insurance thru COBRA for awhile if you are covered by your employer now, but it's usually expensive. If there are any professional groups for graphic artists, they may have discounted policies for members. Some of the warehouse clubs offer it too. If you know anyone who is self-employed, ask them what they did or the name of their insurance agent. My friend referred me to her agent and he was able to find a low-cost organization for me to join so I could get a group rate for an individual policy.

There’s a new company offering low cost individual health plans in Texas for young, reasonably healthy people, and is a great health insurance solution for self-employed persona who aren’t covered by a group plan. You buy into a plan at a super low cost with fixed benefits that will cover the typical activities of a healthy person. Then, if something catastrophic happens, you have the option to get additional levels of coverage, even AFTER the event. You’d have to look into it for more details, but that was the gist. Even if you’re not in Texas, they’ll be offering plans in additional states soon. Plus, they’re backed by a traditional insurance company that’s been around for over 70 years, so even though they’re new on the scene, they have a solid reputation behind them. Check it out: http://www.precedent.com - Good luck!
