I live in a home my mother owns, she lives elsewhere. We pay her no rent. The house is paid for. Would her homeowners insurance cover our belongings? Do we have to have seperate renters insurance? Right now we are paying for complete homeowners, landlord insurance AND renters insurance. This seems excessive

It should cover ur stuff but i'd ring the company to make sure. BECAUSE some companies only replace things which they have as documented. So if your stuff is not on that list it may not be replaced.

Homeowners insurance is more to protect the house structure from fire, floods, water damage. Rental insurance is more to protect items inside the house, belongings. Homeowners should also cover this so I'd scratch that. check with the insurance agent. i have no idea on landlord insurance.
