Default I filed a insurance claim for damage at my home from a grease fire. I...

...received the check for repairs.? The check has my name and the contractors name on it.I would like to pick out my own appliances and lighting although I would need to cash the check first to do that. Would there be any legal reason why the contractor would not sign the check before the work is done?
The estimate that the contractor gave me did not state the type of appliance s or lighting. I would like him to install but I would like to choose my own.

the contractor does not have to be on the check. depending on the state, the leinholder does.
