Default Booking travelling insurance. What is the best?

I've booked flights to New York. And going to be staying there for several weeks. And I checked single trip and long stay insurance. And funnily enough long stay insurance comes up cheaper. I'm sure this can't be right. Does anyone know the difference between the too and would I get the same coverage?

Thanks

Single trip I think is up to 3 weeks holiday and long stay is longer say backpacking. I used www.moneysupermarket.com to find my insurance. You can pick single or annual insurance and other bits n bobs and it finds the cheapest quote. My annual insurance is about £50 or something.

Long-stay insurance policies tend to have lower cancellation cover, reduced benefits and higher excesses - they are generally aimed at the Student traveller/ backpacker (who needs medical cover/ small luggage/ passport) or people going to see and stay with relatives abroad rather than the holidaymaker who may have paid more/ has more luggage and may have booked hotel accommodation in advance.
