Default Travel Insurance - do you have to declare medical conditions which arise AFTER

you've booked your holiday? We've declared our pre-existing conditions, but 3 members of the family have since been referred to hospital for tests. Only one is travelling, but we'd probably have to cancel if the other two turned out to have something serious. I'm not too clear about whether we have to declare it now and then give updates after they've had their tests. Any ideas please?
