Very minor car "accident". What to do?
Hello, this past Saturday I was involved in a very minor accident while approaching the Holland Tunnel headed to NY City. Traffic was backed up for miles and it took us one hour to finally reach the tolls just before the entrance to the tunnel. Just before the tolls, someone was trying to cut in front of me from the Ez-Pass lane. I rolled down my window and we had words with each other as traffic was moving very slowly. Unfortunately, I was distracted by this and did not realize that the car in front of me had stopped, and I hit it. It was a very minor bump, as I was going maybe 5 MPH. The driver of the car in front of me got out of his car and I got out of mine. I saw there was no damage to either car, but he asked me for my insurance information. I gave him my business card as we were in one of only 2 lanes leading to the tunnel and with the traffic back up there was certainly no way we could have blocked that lane to exchange insurance information. But more importantly, there was no damage to either car so there was no reason to exchange insurance info. We both got back into our cars and as we approached the tolls the driver in front of me flagged down a police officer. We were directed to the shoulder and the driver filed a police report, which added 30 minutes to our wait (what a complete waste of time!). My question is, what will happen at this point? Should I contact my insurance company? There was absolutely no damage to either car...Thanks in advance.
