Received a DUI
Hi - I am new to this forum. I received a DUI last October in Arizona.
My story: It was October 18th evening. My friends and I just watched the Red Sox beat the Indians in a playoff game, and we decided to leave the bar. There is a local Mexican fast food joint less than 600 feet away from the bar. Being foolish, I decided to drive to the Mexican joint. I made a wide left out of the bar and sped 8 miles over the speed limit (that being 35 mph, thus clocked at 43 mph), and was pulled over by a cop, who profiled me leaving the bar. There just happended to be a DUI van 1 mile away from where I was stopped. (where the breathalyzer was administered)
It was not an extreme and not aggravated. I blew a .105. After months of waiting, I finally pled guilty as all the motions my legal counsel tried were rebuffed by the judge. This whole experience has been a learning lesson. I made a foolish mistake and now I am paying for it. The last ticket I received before this was 5 years ago. So, in one foolish swing, I accumulated 11 points on my record. 8 points for the DUI and 3 points for speeding. I am now in the process of trying to find affordable auto insurance. I was checking to see if any of you can provide insight on insurance providers and rates they may offer DUI offenders. I have farmer's Insurance, and I have been told by my agent that my monthly insurance will be $300/mo minimum. I guess Bristol West has been bought by Farmer's and I could save money by being written on Bristol West. However, I have heard horror citizens. I have called State Farm and Geico, and they both have been quoting my $280+/month.
Any help is appreciated. I have always been a model citizen, and simply made a foolish mistake and now I am left to pick up the pieces. Thanks for any advice.
