I was driving a friend's car with their permission. Caught by a radar trap doing 40 in 30mph zone and issued with a fixed penalty notice. Next day I handed in my driving licence at police station however being neither insured myself nor, on checking, under my friend's policy to drive the vehicle I couldn't produce a valid certificate of insurance. I also already have 3 points for speeding (by camera doing 40 in 30mph zone) a couple of years ago.
When I receive the summons (assuming one is issued) I intend to plead guilty by post. My question is what happens next?

a rather large fine and at least 6 points for the no insurance, a smaller fine and 3 points for the speeding, add that to the 3 you already have then that equals a ban. you also risk imprisonment for the no insurance. lesson learnt do you think? it is up to you to check if you are insured to drive the vehicle or not.

Hopefully you'll get what's deserved. What would have happened if you'd had an accident. It's people like you that make everyone elses insurance so high!!

A fine and possibly a ban. Go to court in person and plead guilty, the magistrates usually favour a lighter sentence when someone bothers to show up. Do not try the old story ' I didn't know it was not insured', they will tell you that you should have checked first, as ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking it. good luck.

You will have to appear in a magistrate court where you will be fined, have points added to your license. That's the best outcome. OR Fined and then BANNED...
