Default Is it illegal to own two car insurance policies for two different cars??

I want to go on my dads insurance for a ford fiesta as it is way cheaper than getting my own policy but he already has a policy for a volvo with a different company.... so would it be ok for him to own a policy for his volvo and a policy with me on it for the ford fiesta???.
