Default Do I need to get a salvage title after car has been deemed "totaled" by insurance

company? I bought the car salvaged. It was in a previous accident and owner fixed it up and got a salvage title. Recently my mother got hit by someone. The damage to the car was worth more than car. The insurance has paid out minus the cost of salvage and they are letting us keep the car. What do I need to do, if anything, if I want to keep the car and drive it. The damage was mostly cosmetic. Do I need to file any papers with DMZ and check inspections done by DMZ and CHP? I read that if you want salvage title you have to, but this car already had a salvage title. Not sure if you get to get another salvage title or not.

Once you have salvage title you will not need new one. It will be listed in carfax (New accident) and also show same salvage title.

Its not wise to drive a car that was totalled twice. But I did see a 95 corsica at auction that had been totalled 4 times! Yes thats right 4 major accidents. I do think insurance companies are being over aggressive with the salvage stuff. Especially on an old 2 1/2 ton vehicle that only has minor cosmetic damage. No need to total something unless is MAJOR damage like bent frames, etc.

state laws may differ, but in kentucky once a car has been classified with a salvage title it never has to be "re-classified". All you need to do is repair the cosmetic damage if you want to. I don't think the car could be re-insured until it is repaired
