Default Car needs repairing after a small reversing incident, no other damage.

Should i claim on insurance? Will maybe require new bumper and perhaps even new tailgate on an 02 VW Sharan tdi. I'm on a joint policy with my wife, 25 no n/c, I'm the main driver, 29 with 2 years n/c. Our excess is £500 but i'm sure the repairs will be more, but we're not sure about the best way to get our car fixed after my stupid mistake. Any help would be very much appreciated and may go some way to getting me out of the doghouse!
