Default Insurance...i backed my newly owned/newly insured vehicle into a wall?

i filed a claim, not knowing what to do exactly, but i was later told that i shouldn't have filed the claim because the damage isn't going to be too great a cost. i have a 500 deductible, and the entire rear bumber is going to have to be replaced, but now i am being told that my insurance is going to go up. i am 19 and i was wondering if any insurance saavy citizens out there know about how much i should expect to see my insurance go up. or can i just not go through with the claim??? or is it done and now i just have to live with the consequences of making that mistake.
