Default Insurance Question - Business Liability Coverage?

What would the norm be to spend on a basic policy for a lawncare business? Just a very small policy so that when people ask you can tell them that you are insured.
yeah, it's just me. i will probably get worker's comp exemption which is common for single member companies here in Florida. Thanks for the advice.

It will vary based on what state you're in. A basic one-man policy in Ohio would run $500-600 / year; other states it may run as high as $2500 / year.

Hopefully you have a relationship with a local independent agent with access to good companies that write this business. Good luck.

Assuming you're a one man job, don't do any herbicide/pesticide or tree trimming, or snowplowing in the winter, $1500.

You do need to speak to an independent agent for advice, you may also need to have workers compensation coverage. In some cases if you want to bid on a job, you need to show a certificate of insurance to prove you have insurance and the type of coverages you have. If you do any sort of commercial lawn care, they probably will not talk to you without liability and work comp coverage. If you don't have either and some sort of injury or damage was caused, it is then their liability and the business will not want to take on that expense. There are agents listed in the yellow pages and on line who can help you. It is worth getting a few quotes on premiums and then determine the cost of the amount of coverage you want and can afford.
