It really depends. We have 6 dogs and 3 cats of our own and foster dogs and cats as well as do a rescue. So we have pet insurance on our own dogs and cats and keep something like a paid account at our vets office for our rescues and some fosters. For us it turned out to be a great idea. I have pet insurance through the ASPCA, they reimburse about 85% of the costs, and fairly quickly. I believe a basic plan is about $30 per month. You can check it out on their website aspca.org. There are many other companies that offer insurance, but this plan fit my needs best.
