Default Is it a Good Idea to Get Pet Insurance??

Have any of you recently got a puppy, or do you know if pet insurance is worth it? I'm going to call the vet tomorrow to see about getting Pet Insurance on a Maltipoo that I'm getting in almost 3 weeks. Just wondering what the advantages of having that is, or if it'll save me money or if I'm going to waste money. Thanks.

If you're the type of person to pay for surgery when a pet injures itself or gets sick, rather than having it put down (and I assume you are or you wouldn't be inquiring about Pet insurance) then I'd say yes, its definitely worth it. Medical bills can run you in the thousands, and good Pet Insurances will also cover damage to third party property.
Just make sure you read carefully what is included in your plan, as not all Pet Insurance is alike. Also, its often cheaper to get your dog insured as a puppy, so make sure to take advantage of that and act quickly if you do decide to go for insurance.

I hope you are rescuing this maltipoo from a shelter and not supporting a backyard breeder!!

Anyway, there is a new plan at Kroger I am looking into, and it is EXCELLENT from what I have seen. I would try it out as I know people have had problems with VPI and Banfield. Glad to see you are going to stay UTD on all vet care and have a backup in case or emergencies!! :-)

Did you know that Progressive now sells pet insurance for your dog? I thought that was interesting. And to answer your question.. All it takes is one major accident or disease to set you back a couple grand.

in the long run, it may save you some money if the dog has problems, but like most insuance, the insurance company is betting that you are NOT going to have to need it. thats how they make money.

pet insurance is a good idea but you need to know that it saves you a few bucks.. you pay out of pocket and they reinburse some of it.

you don't need to visit your vet, get it online, thats where it all starts anyways

if you don't need the insurance, you will say 'waist of money', but if you need the insurance you will say "what a life saver"

BUT make sure you read everything, there is a lot that is not covered, out of pocket expense

NO::rogressive insurance does NOT carry pet insurance, they only pay for your pet to be treated in case of an accident in your auto.

Well, they do cover a lot of things--and you need to get it BEFORE any problems are identified by the vet, as 'existing' problems are not covered. Take a look at the cost per month for one animal, multiply that out over a year, and figure if it's worth it every year, in your opinion.

If I had the chance to get it on two of our cats, it would have saved multiple thousands of dollars (diabetic, broken tooth, pancreatitis attack, urinary blockage, blood tests, stabalizing his diabetes a second time, the insulin costs, thyroid meds on the other, a urinary blockage and operation, internal cyst operation, foot lump removed, etc.) over the course of 8 years. Hindsight is great....but useless.
