Default Pet Insurance? Any Experiences?

Our dog recently had to have very costly emergency surgery and we are considering getting pet insurance, so that in the event that this ever happens again we'll be prepared. We have two dogs and estimate that we spend between $1000 and $1500 a year on preventative medication and vet bills. Just wondering what people's experiences have been with pet insurance. Is it really worth it? We love our dogs and consider them our children, we'd like to not have to think about money when it comes to making descisions that affect their health.

Go on line to AKC website, they refer to the best pet insurance, I have it, and I am thankful I got it...

there are some good ones out there, also call your vet, they can usually refer you to a very good one, like the one they use most.......it is a good investment

We had pet insurance that was sold through the vet's office for our two cats; however, it got to be waaaaay too pricey. Our cats are indoor-only and fairly young, and do not need a ton of vet care (yet). I think that it's worth it when you're spending as much as you are on your dogs! You may want to ask your vet if there's a company they recommend.

I had Veterinary Pet Insurance and the way it worked was that I fronted the bill and they then reimbursed a certain amount.

Very much worth it as far as shots and care.

My dog got kennel cough from the groomers, and she became very ill and they helped pay about 50% of it. It cost usually around $16 a month and usually isnt much more than that.

They will ask a a clean bill of health before they get approved.
