Default Cat D Insurance write -off?

Had my car damaged by third party outside my house after a few issues was told to take car to repair shop for inpsection after a week told car was repairable at a cost that to me meant the car hadn;t been classed as a write-off and repairs had been authorised. 2 weeks later car was delivered to my house ,nice job. Further 2 weeks later was gob-smacked to find that the car has been classed as a Cat D insurance write-off. At no stage was i informed this had happened or was going to happen. Has anybody experienced a situation like this before.Do i take legal advice with this one

The category is there to show that the car has had damage in its past and to be used as a guide only. If category D is total loss/non repairable i think you should have been paid out/or alternative sourced. You may have signed to say it is complete but not being trained - how you supposed to know. Get AA or simlar to inspect it for you.

Looks like the insurance company have made a mess of this one. Either they have it repaired or they write it off and agree a figure with you. If they were going to write it off, why the h*ll did they have it repaired? (I presume it wasn't you who authorised repairs).

I'd ring 'em up and ask them what they're playing at (and, importantly, establish that you are still insured).

Glad you got your car back, anyway.
