Default Which company offers the best pet insurance? U.K. only please.?

I've recently got a Jack Russel pup. My vet has given us 6 weeks free insurance with Petplan but obviously I'll need a more permanant choice. There are so many companies out there, which have you found to be good value?
Have gone with Tesco. Wasn't necassarily looking for cheapest, just reliable & offering a good level of cover. I chose their Premium one so he's covered in for long term health problems if they go on for more than a year, etc It was just over £7, quite good I think. Thanks for all your answers, it's true that pet owners are a friendly bunch!

Tesco are getting a lot of good reviews.

I don't use pet insurance I have five dogs and so even with a cheap insurance scheme, the premiums would be prohibitive. I do have a vet fund where I deposit cash each month into a building society account. My vet fund account is now quite large and so I would be able to cover most vet bills. In the event of a catastrophic disaster, I also have a flexible friend.

This is how insurance schemes work. Most dogs aren't going to need expensive treatment and so the insurance company makes a profit. With my scheme, the profit is mine. Its a gamble and I don't know if it would work for owners with just one dog.

Petplan is one of the most expensive. I had them for the first couple of years for my dog who is now nearly 8 but switched to Tesco a couple of years ago. It's about £9 a month but obviously gets more expensive the older your dog gets. I got a few quotes from others recently as it was up for renewal but Tesco seemed to be the best value all round

Ive got various animals insured with various insurance companies in the UK pet plan insure 2 of my dogs pet protect insure 1 of my dogs and the other dog is insured by direct line.
direct line gives you a discount if they are neutered and micro chipped i have had no problems claiming with any of them pet plan are expensive but ive come across other more expensive
what you have to remember is the cheapest is not always the best i look for permanent cover against illness or disease year after year if i have to keep claiming for the same condition ,pet plan is the most popular insurance company out there at the moment .many insurance companies wont allow you to hand in a claim form and the vet claim from the insurance company, and you pay the excess, pet plan and direct line and pet protect can do that.
the best way to find an insurance company for your pet is to go on line and type in each insurance company's name and see the benefits you can get for yourself

my horses are insured with pet plan and my rabbit and gunieapigs too

Well, both of my German Pointers are insured with More Th>n. It's up to you at the end of the day...shop around, and get quotes. I pay just over £11.00 per dog per month at the moment, which is pretty good ( Don't forget, they go by the breed of dog, and its size too).
I have had no problems and any claims I have made have been settled within a couple of days.
As I said, shop around, check out what you are covered for; some policies won't cover a recurring illness....so check for this sort of thing before you buy your policy......but , good for you, it is essential to have insurance for your pet!! One of my dogs needed an urgent operation which would have cost me nearly £1000, but thanks to insurance, I only had to pay £70.00!!

If you are looking at best as in cheap i would say probably asda or tesco, it depends though in which kind of coverage you want. if you go to www.pet-insurance.get-quote.co.uk and other such sites they give you a good overveiw without reading the all the small print. Just beware that some insurances dont cover certain ailments, some only cover long term illness/treatments for a certain period (ie up to 1 year),and some only cover up to a certain age (something to watch out for in the furture) and some insurance companies offer a higher max fee cover & death compensation (grim, i know, sorry..)its worth checking them out & see what suits you.
Good luck!
