call your insurance company and let them know you want a clause written into already existing account just for the purpose of your job. They will ask how much you want to be bonded/insured for and you give a dollar amount you think is justified. Say while a dog... while in your possesion dies for one reason or another...that insurance is there so if the dog owner goes all out and sues you. Thats what it is for.

Your local independent insurance agent will take care for that for you. Normally, they consign Loyd's of London for that..It costs about $500-$800 per year for one million dollars coverage, or $300 for $500,000. (depending on your area)

You would also be wise to do an LLC for the business, so it cannot attach your home in any way..

If you are just dog-walking for a few clients, you may be able to attach it to your homeowner's.

(I just went through this)

It seemed terribly steep to me..figuring I would only be liable for a dog escaping, and perhaps causing damage to a car..but, the agent pointed out, it could cause even loss of life, etc..if dog caused a major wreck..which does happen..

At that ime, I decided it was wise to use my OWN leashes, collars and harneses...escape-proof! and applied before dog leaves owner's home.

Check with Pet Sitters Associates. They offer insurance for pet sitters and dog walkers, and their prices are very reasonable. Their website is http://www.petsitllc.com

You'll also want to find out what type of business license is required, if any, for your area. You can check with your city/county office for this.
