It depends on you. Do you think you dog is worth it? Pet Insurance is great, especially if you own a pure breed dog that is genetically predisposed to certain medical problems. I think it is especially worth it if, when the time comes, you will be hard up for cash for a $2000 foreign body removal, $5000 GDV surgery or like we did this week, $7000 in fracture repairs (yes, the dog broke all 4 legs).
There are many different plans that cover emergency situations only, preventative care (vaccines, heartworm prev and disease, neutering, dentals, etc), and some that cover both.
Many work on a reimbursement only plan - you pay the bill, send in the paper work and they reimburse you, usually within 10 business days.
Some will pay out a certain amount for different illnesses, chronic conditions, etc some have a cap on these. Most have a copay amount or percentage that you are responsible for.
Monthly fees are usually pretty low. Most give discounts for spayed and neutered pets, microchipping, multiple pet plans, etc.
All companies are different so be sure to evaluate them carefully and select the best one for you.
