Default Renters insurance in an illegal house?

If you are renting a separate house on someone's property.. and the house is not legal.. would renters insurance then be void if you have it?

What is a illegal house? Your insuring your stuff, not the house. You can even insure stuff in a rental space.

No because renters insurance does not cover the structure, only the contents. Read your policy for clarification.

If the insurance company has been aprised of the area of illegality, and give you a waiver, then the insurance would be valid.
