Default Does anyone offer car rental insurance in the UK for car's hired in the UK?

I'm renting a car from Hertz, I thought I was fully insured until I read the small print. I could be liable for the first £500-1400 of damage unless I buy their 'Super Cover'. This costs nearly as much as the car rental.

I want some insurance to cover this 'excess', and it must be possible to buy it cheaper than from Hertz. I thought I'd found a couple of places but the small print got me again. Either I'm not covered in my own country or I'm not covered unless I hire 150 miles from home. We are hiring the car at home and driving to our holiday destination.

oh dear, try Zurich. There pretty good, and you don't have to pay anything up front. In other words, get the policy, have your holiday, then cancel the policy. It will cost 15.00 to cancel. Good Luck.
