Renters insurance, well, there's not much competition for it. They're all about the same - $150 a year will get you a decent policy with replacement cost and $20,000 of stuff, just about anywhere.
The FIRST place to look is the same place that has your car insurance, because even if it's $50 more than everyone else, if it saves you 10% or 20% off your car insurance with a "package discount", it's still cheaper.
After that, any A rated, admitted carrier is going to be fine. Check with a local, independent agent.
